IGCC: Producing More Than Energy

IGCC: Producing More Than Energy

Reliable coal-fired power generation is the answer to our nation's energy needs. Coal gasification technology holds great promise to utilize this abundant resource cleanly and effectively — with potentially greater revenue streams, thanks to valuable byproducts.

Turn to Burns & McDonnell for the expertise to make it possible.

Doing It Right with Gasification

An integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) facility lets you turn affordable coal into a synthetic gas for clean, reliable power production.

What's more, IGCC facilities have the capability to produce byproducts like hydrogen, synthetic natural gas, methanol, sulfur and Fischer-Tropsch liquids, all valuable feedstocks needed for end products like:

  • Ammonia
  • Gasoline
  • Acetate products
  • Urea
  • Diesel
  • Acetic acid
  • Fertilizers
  • Naphtha
  • Ethylene/propylene

Burns & McDonnell has long been a leader in coal-fired electric power generation.

Our teams have the regulatory expertise to help you site and permit an IGCC facility, the technological expertise to design it for efficient operation and constructability, and the procurement, scheduling, and management expertise to deliver it on time and within budget.

Burns & McDonnell is providing design engineering and overall project management for an IGCC project for Christian County Generation LLC in central Illinois, the Taylorville Energy Center. The nominal 600-megawatt facility will produce both electric energy and a commercial chemical feedstock, with an extremely low emissions profile.

IGCC technology has promise for being the future of clean-coal power generation in the United States. We're committed to furthering the commercialization of this technology.
