Powerful Options

As coal, natural gas and nuclear power remain the primary ways to meet large-scale energy needs, utilities continue working to locate, understand and capitalize on other resources to broaden the power supply spectrum.

Among the most reliable of supplemental sources is landfill gas. Using methane from landfill gas is a unique way for utilities, municipalities and others to provide consistent supplemental power, promote environmental responsibility and help satisfy regulatory requirements for renewable energy sources.

Dozens of landfills already have partnered with utilities and others to collectively serve their own communities and beyond. You can read more about the industry, the process and two of our recent projects in our cover story.

These forward-looking efforts in sustainable power — along with those involving other alternative sources, including wind and solar - promise to help all of us navigate the power challenges of the future.
