Northwest Oklahoma is rich with untapped wind potential. The key to unlocking this potential is a transmission backbone that delivers energy captured to the grid. OG&E committed to build this backbone from Oklahoma City to Woodward, Okla., and on to Guymon, Okla. Burns & McDonnell is providing turnkey project management, including routing, public involvement, design/engineering, survey, land acquisition, procurement, construction and landowner management.

Burns & McDonnell's Real Estate and Right-of-Way Services group managed the land acquisition. Three land acquisition consultants provided field work to reduce the risk associated with the large project size and aggressive schedule. A phased acquisition schedule allowed construction to begin prior to the completion of rights acquisition and to reduce the resources required to complete the project.

Burns & McDonnell managed the land acquisition process, including but not limited to scope, budget, schedule and identification of landowners, title search, route inspection authorization, valuation studies, easement document creation, subordination agreements, interest recording, payments, damage settlement, landowner management during construction, and information management.

Land acquisition project features:

  • Acquisition of 125 miles of new right of way
  • Acquisition of three new substation sites
  • Support of aggressive project schedule
