Burns & McDonnell is providing professional services for preliminary design and development of a site for installation of 250-MW wind powered generating facility. Burns & McDonnell’s scope includes preliminary power collection system design and routing, preliminary turbine access road design and routing, creation of project layouts and drawings, a preliminary geotechnical investigation, environmental support, and project development assistance.

TradeWind Energy is an energy merchant in North America, based in Lenexa, Kan. Burns & McDonnell was retained to provide development assistance for a wind turbine project site near Ellsworth, Kan.

The Smoky Hills Energy Facility will consist of between 100 and 168 wind turbines, depending on the wind turbine manufacturer selected for the final project design. Burns & McDonnell provided preliminary site engineering in the form of site layouts, power collection system design, access road layout and design, a preliminary geotechnical investigation and environmental support. Burns & McDonnell’s scope also included assistance in preparation of a transmission system impact study.
