West Lake Street Remediation & SRP Reporting

Location: Chicago

Client: City of Chicago, Department of Environment

Completion Date: In progress

Burns & McDonnell was selected to conduct a supplemental site investigation (SSI) and enroll the site into the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's (IEPA) Site Remediation Program (SRP). During the process of conducting the Interim Remedial Actions at the east half of the west parcel, an underground storage tank was uncovered and removed. Burns & McDonnell completed the reporting activities and received a No Further Remediation (NFR) letter from the IEPA in June 2005. Phase II of the project began in fall 2005 with the property ultimately being transferred to the Chicago Public Schools.

The scope of services for this project included a supplemental site investigation, evaluating the analytical results to Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO), preparing a comprehensive site investigation report, determining the remedial objectives for the planned land usage, generating a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) and providing a Soil Management Plan (SMP) and remediation oversight. The site contained numerous buried foundations and other structures associated with its former land use, making investigation difficult. An NFR letter is being requested before land transfer to the Chicago Park District.
