Wausau Paper: Boiler MACT & Particulate Control Study

Location: Coal-Fired, Industrial Boiler Facility

Client: Wausau Paper Co.

Completion Date: 2006

Burns & McDonnell was hired by Wausau Paper to identify and evaluate the impacts of the proposed Industrial Boiler Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) rule on a coal-fired industrial boiler facility in Rhinelander, Wis. The evaluation considered cost reduction options in addition to air pollution control options.

The study evaluated the parameters of the existing facility and the options available to Wausau Paper in order to comply with the Industrial Boiler MACT and other environmental regulations and to reduce all associated costs. Included in the study were pro forma economic analyses for operations and maintenance, capital improvements, fuel, and electricity for each potential option, in addition to sensitivity analyses for multiple variables of the alternatives.

The final deliverable included a detailed report with supporting documentation and basic general arrangement drawings for each alternative.
