Water Main Replacement & Booster Pumping Station Repair

Location: O'Fallon, Ill.

Client: City of O'Fallon, Ill.

Burns & McDonnell prepared plans, specifications and cost estimates to replace 12- and 24-inch water mains feeding both booster pump stations for the City of O'Fallon, Ill. The project consisted of:

  • Replacing the entire structure and all pumps, motors, controls and ancillary mechanical/electrical equipment on the French Village Pump Station
  • Adding a 1,500-square-foot new pump room and chlorine feed facility and rehabilitating the existing facility on the O'Fallon Public Works Compound Pump Station
  • Replacing 400 lineal feet of water mains connecting the booster stations to the distribution system.

Both projects required analyzing the distribution system using CYBERNET to determine flow conditions entering and leaving the facilities and incorporating the flow information into design of the 6,000 gpm, 200 hp, 480 v. constant speed pumps and motors used at both locations on the distribution system. The project included designing and furnishing a backup diesel generator with automatic transfer switch and automatic start system located outside the building on a fenced concrete pad. The motor control center was furnished with soft start starters for the booster pumps. Auxiliary equipment included surge arrestors and starters for vent fans.
