USAir Interim Terminal

USAir Interim Terminal

Location: Washington, D.C.

Client: Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority

Burns & McDonnell performed mechanical, electrical, civil and structural design for the new USAir interim terminal facility. This facility maintained passenger service for the airline during the construction and redevelopment of the entire airport. This terminal renovation demanded an abbreviated schedule.

We provided designs to modify an existing maintenance hangar for ticketing, baggage claim and bag makeup functions. A total of 46,000 square feet of concourse and hold room were also added. The project entailed upgrading and expanding pavement, taxiways and hardstands to accommodate increasing aircraft traffic at the airport.

The new, eight-gate facility has the flexibility to expand to 11 gates. Construction was estimated at $20 million and facility was operational just 10 months after the project began.
