Stonegate/Fair Oaks Ranch Substations

Location: San Antonio

Client: City Public Service of San Antonio

Burns & McDonnell designed the new Stonegate and Fair Oaks Ranch substations for City Public Service (CPS) of San Antonio. The initial design included a single 50 MVA transformer, two 138-kV breakers, one 138-kV circuit switcher, one 35-kV main breaker and five 35-kV feeder breakers. The ultimate design includes four 50 MVA transformers, with associated breakers, switches and auxiliary equipment.

Burns & McDonnell and CPS of San Antonio worked closely and delivered the project in paperless fashion. A project Web site was created and all project information requests, project schedules, project drawing reviews are done through the site.

Burns & McDonnell was responsible for substation design, relay and control design, material lists, coordination with civil/structural design, construction support, and construction records.

The engineering was completed ahead of schedule and below budget.
