Route 291 Missouri River Bridges

Location: Kansas City, Mo.

Client: Missouri Department of Transportation

The new 1,900-foot Route 291 bridge over the Missouri River carries southbound traffic. The existing bridge was revitalized to provide northbound traffic lanes.

Staged construction accommodated funding availability to complete the pair of projects. Balanced cantilever erection of the truss was developed to eliminate temporary erection bents in the navigation span.

The existing structure project included rehabilitation of the original truss and deck girder system members and replacement of the driving surface.
