Riverton Water Tank

Riverton Water Tank

Location: Riverton, Wyo.

Client: City of Riverton

Completion Date: Design: 2012; Construction: 2013 (est.)

Burns & McDonnell provided hydraulic modeling, design and engineering services to increase the water storage available to west Riverton, Wyo. The improvements required by this project provided the following to residents and businesses in west Riverton:

  • Increased system redundancy
  • Improved system pressure (thereby reducing resident complaints)
  • Increased reliability
  • Improved water quality in the distribution system
  • Provisions to meet demand needs for future expansion

Burns & McDonnell updated the existing city water model and determined the size of the tank needed for fire flow requirements. The model also confirmed the size of the new water lines (24 inches). Burns & McDonnell performed the design of a 2 million-gallon pre-stressed concrete water tank, transmission piping, pressure-reducing valve (PRV) vaults, two booster pump stations, and development and connection of Well #17 to the city's system. This project has three PRV vaults that are designed as prepackaged assemblies. The PRVs will be above ground in structures as requested by the city.
