Old Highway 141 Over Saline Creek

Location: Jefferson County, Mo.

Client: Jefferson County, Mo., Department of Public Works

Completion Date: 2007

Burns & McDonnell designed the replacement bridge for Old Highway 141 over Saline Creek in Jefferson County, Mo. The new structure provided for a wider roadway width and a safer crossing for residents. The existing bridge crossing over Saline Creek had inadequate bridge railing and was reduced to one lane before demolition. The channel conditions at the bridge were unsatisfactory due to the filling in of the channel at the upstream face of the bridge by a neighboring business.

The project included the design of a 153-foot, three-span concrete deck beam superstructure with a three-beam rail supported on the side of the deck beams. The roadway width was 40 feet and included a 15-degree skew. The superstructure was supported on reinforced concrete integral abutments and pile bent piers with web walls supported on steel H-piles.
