Multiple Mercury CEMS Installations

Location: Oklahoma City

Client: Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co.

Completion Date: Ongoing

Burns & McDonnell is providing engineering and construction management services for the installation of five mercury Continuous Emission Monitory Systems (CEMS) at the Muskogee and Sooner Plants for Oklahoma Gas & Electric. Burns & McDonnell provided procurement specifications for the purchase of five Thermo-Electron Hg CEMS systems mounted in three shelters.

New utilities were designed to support the Hg CEMS equipment, including redundant power feeds, UPS power and compressed air. Before installation, an integrator was used to integrate and check out each system. Cisco switches and Ethernet cabling were used to connect the systems with the plant local area network (LAN) system. To limit the effects of voltage spikes in sensitive electronic equipment, fiber optic communications were established between the CEMS shelters and probe/analyzers. Existing ports were modified at each stack to accept the Thermo-Electron probe. To accommodate probe maintenance and umbilical routing, structural platform modifications were made.
