Mesquite Power Water Pipeline Installation

Burns & McDonnell represented Sempra Energy Resources as the owner’s engineer for the Mesquite Power Generating Station, a 1,250-MW combined cycle generating facility 50 miles from Phoenix.

Burns & McDonnell provided permitting assistance for the power plant, developed the design-build specification, evaluated bids, and reviewed drawings and specifications pertaining to construction of the generating facility.

Burns & McDonnell also provided resident engineering services throughout construction and commissioning of the generating facility. Burns & McDonnell also performed the balance of plant design for the Mesquite Generating Station, which included the design of four miles of 30-inch, HDPE water pipeline and the design of two, 120-acre HDPE lined evaporation ponds.

Design of the 30-inch HDPE water pipeline included permitting support, which involved Corps of Engineers 404 permit evaluation, and coordination with state ADOT and ADWR and local agencies. Other design aspects included: material selection, hydraulic analysis, horizontal and vertical alignment, wash crossing design, detailed design and construction specifications.
