In December 2008, Central Maine Power awarded the program management contract for its Maine Power Reliability Program to Burns & McDonnell. The program traverses approximately 75 communities and includes 437.5 miles of new 345-kV and 115-kV transmission facilities. The proposed new lines and facilities are needed to alleviate congestion and strengthen the reliability of the power grid throughout the region.

In the first quarter of 2009, a Burns & McDonnell team was established in Portland, Maine. This office is also supported by the Burns & McDonnell New England office in Wallingford, Conn., and the corporate world headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. The Burns & McDonnell project office is in New Gloucester, Maine, and has more than 60 employees managing all facets of construction, which began in the summer of 2010, including: safety, construction management, engineering review, document control, scheduling, cost control, procurement, real estate and community relations.
