Main Steam Shutoff Valve Replacement

Main Steam Shutoff Valve Replacement

Location: Sikeston, Mo.

Client: Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities

Completion Date: 2008

Burns & McDonnell assisted the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities in completing a specification for the purchase of a new main steam shutoff valve for the Sikeston Power Station. Based on Burns & McDonnell’s experience and qualifications, we provided insights into the proper selection of the replacement valve. We aimed to minimize pressure drop and select a product that will provide extended life and minimal maintenance. The work plan was prepared to accurately define the process for an engineered solution. The solution resulted in procuring a replacement main steam shutoff valve that meets the requirements of the unit design.

The first phase of this project included data collection and review of available information from the plant. Burns & McDonnell retrieved and reviewed all available specifications, drawings and operating data pertinent to Unit 1 and all modifications made since the original installation. We interviewed maintenance and operating personnel as required to understand the present boiler performance and operating criteria.

The second phase of this project included developing a specification for the procurement of the new valve. We assisted in the evaluation of the bids and provide recommendations to the plant for selection.
