International Terminal & Parking Structure

Location: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta

Client: Gresham, Smith and Partners (Atlanta Gateway Designers — Joint Venture)

Completion Date: Design, 2009; Construction, 2012

This project consists of:

  • A five-story landside International Terminal and Concourse F, with 12 wide-body gates to accommodate Group IV and Group V aircraft with the flexibility for utilization by one or more airlines for international and domestic flights
  • An underground automated people mover
  • A five-story open structure parking garage with elevator cores/stairs and support offices 
  • Concourse E renovation 
  • Airside/civil work, including an apron to include the 12-gate aircraft parking layout, coordination with another design team for the interface of the apron to the building, and civil engineering of the building’s site utilities
  • Roadway improvements

As a subconsultant, Burns & McDonnell’s role was to develop aircraft layout and striping plans, airfield lighting, passenger boarding bridge design, a preconditioned air system, and the aircraft docking system design for the construction documents design, bidding and construction administration phase of the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal and parking structure.
