Interactive Web-Based Mapping & Document Viewing System

Location: Westminster, Colo.

Client: City of Westminster

Burns & McDonnell was hired by the City of Westminster, Colo., to design and develop a Web-based operations and maintenance (O&M) manual system. The purpose of the Web site is to facilitate the viewing of digital O&M manuals, photographs, design drawings and other electronic documents for its water treatment plant.

The site is designed so treatment plant employees can easily and quickly access vital O&M information from a computer workstation without having to dig through volumes of manuals in a filing cabinet. In addition to fulfilling the requirements of viewing drawings and O&M manuals, a robust geodatabase foundation will be designed to drive facilities management technology in the future.

The Web site allows users to navigate an interactive map to view both the Interior Process Plan and the Exterior Process Plan. After navigating to specific locations via the map, the user can access several O&M manuals, photographs, drawings and/or additional electronic documents.

The system was built utilizing ArcIMS mapping functions and a Microsoft SQL Server ArcSDE geodatabase. Custom functionality was added using ASP, JavaScript and HTML. Burns & McDonnell designed the system so Westminster staff could easily maintain and update functionality and content themselves. Additional drawings, O&M manuals, photos and other electronic documents can be added to the site through simple updates.
