The city of O’Fallon, Ill., Public Works Department has contracted Burns & McDonnell’s Information Management Group to provide ongoing information technology (IT)/geographic information system (GIS) demand services. Demand services provided have revolved around helping city staff better leverage the existing IT and GIS tools available within the city. The services have included spatial data modeling and geodatabase design, geodatabase tuning and performance supplements, custom field data collection form development, and systems integration services. Each of these services allows the city to better move data and has allowed them to be more productive and make better decisions.

As the city expanded its use of the Azteca Cityworks maintenance management system, its database needs have grown. Burns & McDonnell has supported the update and modification of many of the ESRI SQL Server 2000 SDE enterprise geodatabases used within the city, including the water, wastewater, transportation and parks data models. In addition to data model adjustments, Burns & McDonnell has helped the city with SDE geodatabase tuning and management protocols to help ensure that the enterprise geodatabase is running efficiently.

The latest initiative that Burns & McDonnell has started with the city is the integration of IT systems within the city, so that the data can be viewed from one central location. A combination of SQL Server database and GIS tools will be utilized to integrate a new WonderWare SCADA system, the city’s New World accounting system and the Azteca Cityworks maintenance management system. The final result will be an ESRI ArcServer tool that allows the city to view information about all the data sources from a secure Web interface that includes detailed mapping of the entire city.
