Glasgow Hall Addition

Glasgow Hall Addition

Location: Monterey, Calif.

Client: U.S. Navy Southwest Division

Completion Date: September 2006

This project consists of the design and construction of the addition of 36,000 square feet of office, classroom and laboratory space to Building 302, Glasgow Hall, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.

The addition complements the architectural style and massing of Building 302. Provision was made to allow pedestrian circulation between the addition and Building 302 at all aboveground floors. Minor building demolition was required.

The building site was congested with underground utilities and relocation of utilities was required. Care was required to avoid damage of existing fiber optic conduits under the proposed addition. Electric service to the campus is through a duct bank adjacent to Butler Road, and this service could not be interrupted under any circumstances.

The addition is fully sprinklered with a wet pipe fire suppression system and provided with an alarm system connected to the existing fire alarm loop. New site hardscape and landscaping were installed. This work consisted of providing new landscaping, modifications and enhancement of site lighting and modifications to Butler Road to allow for vehicular access to lab storage and staging.

Furniture and audio visual equipment was included, and a new pad mounted transformer was added. Building 302 remained in use as a learning facility during construction.
