F/A-22 Technical Training Facility

F/A-22 Technical Training Facility

Location: Wichita Falls, Texas

Client: Sheppard Air Force Base

Burns & McDonnell provided complete engineering and construction phase services for a new Technical Training Facility. The 122,000-square-foot facility consists of administrative and aircraft maintenance training functions. The high-bay training areas house segments of the aircraft, and 14 state-of-the-art classrooms house computer workstations.

We worked closely with Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Pratt-Whitney in coordinating the technical utility requirements for all of the aircraft parts and training devices. Boeing provided the maintenance training devices, Lockheed Martin provided the aircraft integration components, and Pratt-Whitney provided the engines and engine maintenance equipment.

The project was constructed on a structural slab with a drilled pier foundation system due to the highly expansive nature of the soil. Acoustical studies were conducted to ensure that an overall STC rating of 45 would be provided for the classroom and training areas.
