Electrical Distribution System Model

Electrical Distribution System Model

Location: Fort Sill, Okla.

Client: Fort Sill Army Base

Burns & McDonnell provided a complete model of Fort Sill’s electrical distribution system as part of a new substation design and integration. Safe Software’s FME translation software was used to convert the bases existing ESRI-based geographic informatin system (GIS) into text files that could be imported into Milsoft’s Windmil 7.1. The GIS data lacked connectivity and thus was not a valid electrical model. The connectivity had to be created with custom programming that identified parent nodes needed for Windmil. Additionally, load values were captured from text files exported by MaxPower.

Once the model was complete, Fort Sill was given the entire model and training on how to use Windmil and the model to perform engineering analysis of new substation and its impacts on the distribution system.
