Corporate Aircraft Hangar

Location: Smyrna, Tenn.

Client: Louisiana-Pacific Corp.

Burns & McDonnell was responsible for the design of a corporate aircraft hangar for Louisiana-Pacific Corp. at the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport, Smyrna, Tenn. The project includes a 14,000-square-foot high-bay aircraft servicing area, 3,000 square feet of associated maintenance shops, and 7,000 square feet of flight planning offices and passenger waiting areas. The design-build effort also features 1,800 square yards of access apron paving, paved vehicle parking and access drives, and interior design.

The 8-foot brick masonry wainscot, tinted glass and pre-finished metal siding reflect the design philosophy of the surrounding area. Horizontal sliding doors provide a 26- by 120-foot clear opening to accommodate aircraft tail and wingspans. A wet pipe sprinkler system is incorporated throughout the building, and the hangar has a radiant heating system for efficiency and comfort. A roof-mounted variable air volume HVAC unit provides efficient temperature control in the shop and office areas.
