Composite Support Facilities

Location: Tucson, Ariz.

Client: Arizona Air National Guard

Burns & McDonnell is providing comprehensive A/E services for three projects for the 162nd Fighter Group and the Air National Guard in Tucson, Ariz. The facilities are designed to meet the most current security requirements of the Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection construction standards under UFC 4-010-01, as well as the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards (UFAS) and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Projects include:

The headquarters/operations and training facility will provide 23,000 square feet of multifunctional space for the 162nd Headquarters, Operational Wing, Support Group and Military Personnel Flight. The facility includes separate administrative space for each function that is adjacent to common support areas, such as conference rooms, training rooms, break areas and restrooms. The medical training facility provides approximately 10,000 square feet of space to support the 162nd Medical Squadron. Major functional areas include exam rooms, records, storage and offices.

The base civil engineering facility has about 14,000 square feet and will also provide storage for major equipment. Also included in the building are a number of shop areas. This building will be sited on an unusual site and will allow passive solar options. The project is designed for LEED® Silver certification. The architectural context of the base is southwestern. Exterior walls will be brick with stucco accents. The building will be steel-framed structure with metal deck and standing-seam roof. Exterior materials have been selected for durability and maintainability.
