Citywide Stormwater Management Master Plan

Location: Hays, Kan.

Client: City of Hays

The city of Hays, a central Kansas municipality with a population of approximately 20,000, selected Burns & McDonnell to conduct a comprehensive citywide stormwater management master plan.

The study area includes the 10 square miles within the city limits and an additional 15 square miles in Ellis County tributary to the city's drainage areas. The total drainage area contains 3 main watersheds, which are further divided into separate subareas down to 40 acres for evaluation purposes. Field reconnaissance and surveys will define the drainage network.

The project integrates effective information management, providing the client with usable, electronic information about their facilities. It also includes a component to establish a new citywide stormwater utility fee.
