Beach Boulevard Overhead to Underground Conversion Project

Location: Jacksonville, Fla.

Client: JEA

Completion Date: Spring 2004

Burns & McDonnell has been selected by JEA to design the replacement of approximately 1.2 miles of 26.4-kV overhead conductor with underground conductor. The existing electrical service extends along Beach Boulevard, from Forest Boulevard East to St. Johns Bluff Road. The existing overhead main feeder will be replaced with a new 1,000 kcmil underground cable. The feeder system is described as the 1,000 kcmil underground circuit at 26.4-kV and the distribution system is described as those laterals on the load side of fuse or switch cabinets.

The purpose of this project is to provide a new 26.4-kV underground and feeder distribution system to replace the existing overhead feeder, within the project boundaries. The project includes a survey and coordination with existing underground utilities. Also included in the project is the design for a lighting system along Beach Boulevard, within the project limits, that meets FDOT standards.
