Armed Forces Reserve Center

Location: Bentonville, Ark.

Client: National Guard Bureau, for the Arkansas Army National Guard

Completion Date: 2011

This 109,957-square-foot facility provides individualized and secure spaces for mission execution of the Arkansas Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves (USAR), along with several common spaces that maximize functionality for the shared-use building. The three-building complex was designed to support a full-time load of 32 and peak drill weekend count of 354. The center includes USAR-authorized spaces for full-time administration and dedicated recruiting and retention offices near the main entrance; a mail room with screening and sorting; classrooms separated by operable partitions; vault and armory with heated unit storage and a loading dock; weapons simulator; assembly hall and kitchen; physical training and locker rooms. The project also includes a separate vehicle maintenance building and an unheated storage building.

The center was designed to LEED Silver standards, with energy conservation strategies that maximize efficiency at both full-time partial occupancy and at peak load on drill weekends.
