Addition/Renovation of Readiness Structures

Addition/Renovation of Readiness Structures

Location: Smyrna, Del.

Client: Delaware Army National Guard

Completion Date: 2007

This project was immediately needed to improve the readiness of the 31st Civil Support Team by providing authorized space in accordance to a change in criteria that recognizes the need for more space than originally envisioned.

Vehicle Ready Bay Building

A 4,000-square-foot bay adjacent to the existing readiness center to provide for adequate storage in the building and safely maintain the equipment. Currently, there is not enough room in the existing building to store the equipment that must be ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is not enough space to service or train on the equipment safely.

Alterations to Existing Space

The revised criteria added 4,000 square feet of new space and 1,600 square feet of altered space for the Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team (CST). When the new vehicle ready bays are completed, the existing space will be altered to add supply and storage space for the CST. Anticipated items include a revision to a high-efficiency HVAC system utilizing a ground loop heat recovery system and an on-demand lighting system. Both items will save money by reducing maintenance costs (SRM funds).

Antiterrorism/Force Protection (ATFP) Measures

As this is a unit that must respond immediately to a crisis, its assets must be fully protected. Standoff distances to meet ATFP standards and an extension of the existing fence is anticipated.
