Mentoring

Burns & McDonnell frequently provides unofficial mentoring to small and diverse businesses. We have engaged in formal mentoring programs also.

Our California offices launched a mentor-protégé initiative with a certified MWBE offering environmental, engineering and management services.

Burns & McDonnell is an experienced participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration's Mentor-Protégé program. Our protégé sought to develop a business base and infrastructure to successfully participate and graduate from the 8(a) Program. The protégé requested and Burns & McDonnell provided assistance in the following areas:

  • Management and technical assistance
  • Financial assistance/surety bonds
  • Business development assistance
  • Contracting assistance

Our engagement in this initiative concluded in 2013.

We have fostered and enjoyed many long-lasting relationships with small companies. Our employee-owners continue to collaborate with numerous small/diverse business owners who can provide the products and services that help build our projects.

Internal Supplier Diversity Awards

Burns & McDonnell hosts an annual awards reception highlighting teaming partners who participated with us on projects supporting each of our global practices and internal operations.

The involvement of these firms is integral to the projects' success and client satisfaction. This event also serves to recognize our internal project managers and inspire them to continue broadening our sourcing and project inclusion initiatives.
