Focus on Corporate Citizenship

Our employee-owners strive to be impactful and progressive corporate citizens. Burns & McDonnell continuously conducts aggressive outreach efforts to source small and diverse suppliers.

  • In May 2014, Burns & McDonnell was a national co-sponsor of National Small Business Week in Kansas City. Speakers included Henry and Tom Bloch, who told the H&R Block story, and Greg Graves, chairman and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. Panel discussion after a luncheon included sessions on exporting, becoming bankable, contracting with the federal government and small business growth dynamics. We were honored that Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, also attended.
  • During Burns & McDonnell's annual Diversity Week, we host an internal awards reception highlighting our internal project managers and our small/diverse business teaming partners. The involvement of the small/diverse firms is integral to the projects' success and client satisfaction. This event also serves to recognize our internal project managers and inspire them to continue broadening our sourcing and project inclusion initiatives. Guest speakers have included the Region VII Administrator of the Small Business Administration and the External Director of Civil Rights at MoDOT.
  • For the past six years, Burns & McDonnell has actively participated in the National Minority Supplier Development Conference. With more than 800 exhibitors and 5,000 attendees at each conference, this is a valuable resource to connect with small and diverse businesses.
  • In addition to serving as a judge, Burns & McDonnell routinely sponsors the 25 Under 25 Small Business Awards, which recognizes exemplary SBC's with 25 or less employees.
  • Burns & McDonnell has continuously and actively participated in the Society of American Military Engineers Small Business conferences throughout the country.
  • Burns & McDonnell signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS). This partnership will help us hire veterans as it identifies Army recruits who will make great employee-owners.
