Building Balance and Care

We strive for balance in our lives between life, work and wellness. Our employee-owners work hard for Burns & McDonnell, so it's our responsibility to work hard for them to provide the tools and processes that let them achieve this balance. That's why life and wellness programs are a significant priority. From insurance and disability to time off and wellness programs, it's our job to look after your needs.

Our company vision is to "Improve the Quality of Life," not only for our clients and our community, but also for our employee-owners.  We take a dual approach to supporting the life and wellness of our people, with a goal of offering the best employee benefit package possible.

Insurance

Our people are our greatest resource, so we take good care of our team. Our insurance program is designed to keep our full-time employee-owners (and their families) in great shape.

  • Health, Vision and Dental Insurance: Our benefits are robust and flexible — a choice of two health plans with prescription drug plan, annual routine vision exams and available coverage for eyewear and vision surgeries, and a choice of two dental plans. You can also save pre-tax dollars in a Flexible Spending Account for medical and/or dependent care expenses.
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability: After a year of employment, you are eligible for full salary continuation for up to 90 days at no cost if an illness or disability keeps you from work for an extended period. You can also insure 50 percent to 60 percent of your earnings to provide non-taxable income if you are unable to work long term.

Wellness

Everyone talks about wellness programs, for good reason. Caring for your mind and body keeps you energized, refreshed and ready for whatever life (or work) throws at you. We get it. And we make it a priority, not just with an empathetic culture but with strong time-off and wellness programs.

  • Time Off: You'll accrue 15 days of PTO during your first year. After five years, we'll add an additional day for each year through 15 years of service for a total of 25 accrued days. Employee-owners receive eight paid holidays per year (the usual suspects, plus one floating holiday of your choice).
  • Bereavement: In the unfortunate event of a death in the immediate family, we provide three days of paid leave to handle matters related to death and grieving.
  • Wellness Programs: We want to help you make healthy choices, so we make it easy for you. That starts with a newly renovated fitness center and health center at our world headquarters and corporate discounts at commercial centers nationwide. Our on-site health center is staffed with a nurse practitioner and a dedicated health coach, available to help employee-owners tackle both day-to-day health challenges and meet long-term health goals. We also schedule on-site health screenings and educational seminars to help you identify and address issues. Weight loss and smoking cessation programs help direct employee-owners onto a beneficial path. Healthy activities are encouraged and rewarded with a wellness credit and tobacco-free insurance credits.
